Hi from vanhempainyhdistys

26.9.2019

Dear parents and guardians, Pohjois-Hervannan koulun Tuki ry is the Pohjois-Hervanta school building’s own parents’ association (koulun vanhempainyhdistys in Finnish). We have begun out activities for this autumn but parents and guardians are welcome to join us at anytime during the school year.

Being a part of the parents’ association brings you closer to the everyday life in the school, you get to participate in the school activities more and you will hear what is going on in the school quickly. You also get an opportunity to make a difference because the parents’ association often has an opportunity to express an opinion in matters touching the school. We also send a representative to the meetings of the communal team that solves general everyday problems of schoolwork.

The members of parents’ association support each other in parenting our children. In our meetings you can share successes and moments of joy as well as ask for advice. Our group consists of parents of children of all ages so we can offer perspective on a wide variety of issues. We welcome parents and guardians of children of Pohjois-Hervanta school to join us, whether your child may be on the first or the ninth grade.

Fresh ideas and opinions take us forward in our efforts and renew everyone’s thoughts. We also welcome you if you have no ideas yet. Together we can accomplish more and our voices get heard better. You don’t have to fear a heavy workload or responsibility, you can participate as much or as little as you feel able.

We meet for discussions at the school approximately once a month. You can participate as often as you can, even once a year is ok. If you prefer to work with your hands you are welcome to join us in arranging one or several of the yearly events. We could use help with such tasks as making coffee, baking, shopping for the occasion, marketing, and many others. Everyone can choose an area that best suits them.

We send out Helmi-messages and social media posts of meetings and other events. Our homepage is www,pohentuki.yhdistysavain.fi and  you can find us from Facebook too  www.facebook.com/PohjoisHervannanKoulunTukiRy

If you are interested in participating in any way,
please contact us either through our homepage,
Facebook or via email: maarit.mikkola@gmail.com

During the past school year we organised or were involved in the following events and activities:

  • The traditional Christmas event at the school: in the gym there were several associations presenting their activities and in the cafeteria there was a sale where the classes, families and vendors sold diverse produce
  • 4 discos together with the youth centre Kupoli
  • Buffets for the parents’ evenings and we arranged childcare for the parents taking part in the whole school parents’ evening
  •  We paid for a musical performance for the grades 1-6. We went through the plan for the academic year with the principal and had several discussions on current issues
  • We took part in the communal team meetings and the environmental health inspection of the school and into the meetings with the collaborating groups
  • We collaborated with the parents’ associations that function at the Kanjoni and Hallila school buildings
  • We granted assistance for class trips, an ice cream stipend for all the school and provided the roses for 6th and 9th graders
  • We asked for bids and chose the photographer of the school photographs
  • Most importantly we kept up an ongoing discussion on current matters pertaining to school and children

Our plans for this year – come along!

During this academic year we plan on improving and strengthening our collaboration with the parents’ associations at the other buildings of Ahvenisjärvi School, Kanjoni and Hallila School Buildings, and developing our activities together towards a common future. Our second focus is to support the parental collaboration on each grade level. We are a member of the city level Parents’ Association Tampereen vanhemmat and take part in their events and meetings. The bodily autonomy of children and the prevention of bullying continue to be close to our hearts.

Do not miss: We will arrange the annual Pikkujoulupyrähdys Christmas event on 1.12.2019 and several school discos again this year.

Our next meeting will be on the 24th of October at 17.30. We welcome you to join us!

With autumn greetings Maarit Mikkola,
the chair of the Parent’s Association
